There’s a lot happening in the web series world currently in New Zealand.

Firstly, New Zealand web series High Road is leading the Web Series World Cup, thanks to scooping up the main prize at the Berlin Web Fest and Sicily Web Fest, as well as a swag of other nominations and official selections all over the globe.

Secondly, there are a lot of web series in the pipe-line. NZ on Air received an astounding 109 funding applications for their web series fund this year – but only five will be successful. Those successful web series will be announced on October 1st 2015.

Thirdly, New Zealand will have its first Web Fest this year – on 7th November, in Auckland. The day event will be a fun, inspiring and informative day of screenings, speakers and celebrations for web series and video content creators, YouTubers and fans.

Simon Morris on Radio NZ show, Standing Room Only (13 September 2015) brought together a panel to discuss the future for web series and ways of getting them a bigger audience. On the panel were: Fiona Powell (Editor/Producer WebShowCentral magazine and Web Series Channel, organiser of NZ Web Fest) , Brenda Leeuwenberg (Head of Digital, New Zealand On Air) and RNZ’s Megan Whelan.
