New Zealand web series High Road is leading the Web Series World Cup.

A Kiwi made web series, shot mainly at Piha, is setting the web series world on fire – snapping up awards all over the globe, including two main prizes.

High Road was created and directed by Justin Harwood and stars Mark Mitchinson as Terry Huffer, a burnt out ex-Rocker. Season One was released online in 2013 and was self-funded. Season Two received funding support from NZ On Air and was released online at the end of 2014. In Season Two Terry Huffer is back with a new Radio DJ gig, his daughter comes to live with him, and he re-joins his old band for ‘that’ tour – but can he finally win (recently divorced) Shona’s heart?

Justin Harwood, who played in indie bands The Chills, Luna and Tuatara in the 80s and 90s wrote and directed the series. “Eyeballs looking for innovative and edgy programmes are moving more and more online as shown by the success of Netflix and Hulu,” says Justin Harwood, “and the success of our first series showed there is a big appetite for some genuine Kiwi comedy.”
