Austin WebFest (AWF), now in its second year, showcases the best of the web in the Heart of Texas, June 25th-27th. It provides a venue for international film artists to compete against one another in a friendly atmosphere, while showcasing their web series.
The Austin WebFest’s mission is to provide a cultural alternative to the commercial film experience, and to celebrate and promote the artistic elements of the medium and related ones, and to nurture and promote the art of filmmaking itself.
Two web series from Australia have made the Official Selections; Written it Down and Bleak.
Written it Down is created and produced by Dave Zwolenski & Matt Saraceni. It’s an unscripted comedy… Where people have to deliver bad news… But they have no idea what it is… Until they read it. Before the cameras even begin to roll, the producers write down a line on a piece of paper. Then pairs of comedians improvise a scene based on whatever they read for the first time on film. The “Written it Down” cast includes actors from TV, Radio and Melbourne Comedy troupe “The Big HOO-HAA!” to create hilarious short sitcoms on the fly.
Bleak, the web series is created by Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan. McLennan stars as Anna O’Brien, an adult screw-up who moves back to the family home after her life falls apart.
